Castle Cary

Vibrant market town, with a winding main street of golden stone.  Once the site of an impressive Norman castle. On Bailey Hill see the 18th century 'round house' lock-up, one of only four in the country. The attractive market house, recently carefully renovated, hosts regular markets and the town has high quality shops, delis, cafes and restaurants. A visit to Bailey Hill Bookshop is a must! The museum has a display on diarist Parson Woodforde who lived at neighbouring Ansford and downstairs there is a restored cell. See horsehair being woven at John Boyd Textiles (by appointment only).

The Castle Cary station is on the Heart of Wessex Bristol to Weymouth railway line and the London Paddington to Penzance line.
